The End of the World as We Know It

Staring into the Sun by Tricia GriffithOkay, If I’m wrong I’ll be the first to admit it at the dawn of the apocalypse, but in the meantime, I’ll stand on my belief that the world is NOT going to come to end anytime over the next 24 to 48 hours. At least not literally.

I’m of the mind that, if the world is going  to come to an end, there is not much we can do about it anyway. But have you asked yourself, “What if it doesn’t come to an end?” What if tomorrow is the first day of the rest of our lives?

What if today is the last day you can stop and ask yourself, if my world ended today, was it worth it? What have I done with the time I have been given? Are there regrets? Things you wish you had done differently? Or maybe you have already begun the steps to make your life and your world a better place and wish you could see it to fruition. Write those thoughts and wishes down.

Healing Angel by Tricia GriffithAnd when the sun dawns tomorrow, and we all realize that the world is not ending, take a look at that list you made. Pick one thing from it, and take a step towards making that one thing happen. We all have the power within us to make our world, and the world in general, a better place.

I know that things sometimes seem horrible and sad and ugly. Children are murdered, wars rage, politicians lie, marriages end, friends pass away…

But the fact that we can feel sad about these things; the fact that we recognize that they are awful and that we need to do something to make the world better; this is what tells me that all is not lost. We could easily live in a society where we just shrugged off needless death as “just another day”. Instead we rally, we argue, we fight to make our voices heard, to make changes happen. We don’t just roll over and go back to sleep.

In Tarot, many people fear the Death card, but when you learn about the card, you discover that more often than not it represents dramatic change. Death of the old to bring in the new. A pattern we see in life and nature every day. Plants die and provide nutrients in the soil for new plants to grow; the passing of the seasons bring life, death and rebirth.

earth loveWhether you are fearing the end of the world, or fearing the death of something in your life, it may simply be that you need to stop and look at what you are letting go of or “losing”, and what you might be making way for. I, for one, can’t wait to see what lies on the other side of the apocalypse…

Great piece, Tricia! I like the way you think about this and appreciate that you made me take a moment to give it some thought myself.
